Pest Control...
Most problems we have with spiders and insects are mainly a nuisance, but some can cause
serious health issues or property damage. Spiders and insects enter the home from the outside and
can be easily controlled with a perimeter crack and crevice application. Aggressive
House spiders and Black Widow spiders found commonly in the Mid Columbia can
inflict a terrible bite. These pests can be kept to manageable levels by regularly
spraying applications. Spider populations explode when the weather gets warmer.
Smaller flying insects hatch and fall prey in the webs of the hungry
spiders. The closer to the river you live you will find more spiders then you will in the
hills.
Yellow Jackets..
Wasps and Yellow Jackets are wide spread here and the easiest way to tell the difference in their
nesting habits. The nests you commonly find built on the eves of your house, exposing the Wasps on
the underside of the nest. Yellow Jackets build their nests in the ground or completely enclosed in a
wall void or attic space. Yellow Jackets are much more aggressive. If you have a nest leave it to the
pros to avoid a truly painful experience. When dealing with paper wasps
make sure the nest is inactive before you take the nest down or they will just
rebuild in the same spot.
Ants and Termites...
Like bees and wasps termites and ants are social insects, workers and soldiers cannot exist outside of
the nests for extended periods. The key to controlling social insects is to contaminate the entire nest.
For ants, using baits as well as insecticides that can be readily tracked into the nest by forging
workers. Termites swarm in the spring as well as ants. This is known as a reproductive flight when
Winged Reproductives leave the nest and mate. Western
Subterranean Termites are wide spread and are the only
variety of termites we have in the Mid Columbia. They are a
relatively small insect but left to their devices they can do
extensive damage. If you think you have an infestation call us
right away and we will advise you on the best course of
action for free.
Barrier Treatments...
Most crawling insects and spiders can be controlled by a perimeter barrier treatment
done on a periodic basis. Spraying nearby landscape and the foundation, shrub beds, under steps as
well as around window frames and doors does a great job keeping spider populations at a
manageable level. Insects, such as ants and earwigs can be treated in the same fashion. Boxelder
Bugs, Fly's, and other flying insects pose a different problem. Since flying insects don't have to crawl
over treated surfaces, controlling them is difficult.
Rodents...
Deer Mice are very common in the Pacific Northwest and invade homes year round.
One way to prevent rodent infestations is to make sure you close gaps in door
thresholds, windows, crawl space vents and around pipes. Once they have begun breeding and nesting inside your home it is time to call the professionals.
